Johnny Cash, country music legend, wrote a to-do list. Let's look at it.

Johnny Cash To-Do List Inspected by To-Do Lists’ Nerd

Everyone Knows Johnny Cash but Still

Johnny Cash is one of the most influential musicians of the 20th century, and a key figure in country music. I can’t say I heard lot’s of his music, but for sure it was “Walk the Line”, which was the title for the biographical movie [1].

Judging by the to-do list from the book “Lists of Note” [2], it seems that he also liked to make some jokes. At least that's how I, a regular user of to-do lists, can see it.

What is the first and only joke that usually comes from people who don't organize their day with a to-do list? That's right, do we have “open eyes” and “wake up” among the things to do for the day?🥁😀 The Johnny Cash's list looks roughly like that joke but well extended. Some form of art as well. Although one can't help but give him credit for being romantic and striving for ideals.

So, the Johnny Cash’s To-Do List

  1. Not Smoke *
  2. Kiss June **
  3. Not Kiss anyone else
  4. Cough
  5. Pee
  6. Eat
  7. Not eat too much
  8. Worry***
  9. Go See Mama
  10. Practice Piano

Notes:

Not write notes

What Else to Add?

A few years ago, according to Burgin Mathews' blog, this to-do list was sold at online auction for $6,400 **** [3]. I got the illustration of the list itself from there:

Johnny Cash list

What can we say about it? Judging by the lack of checkmarks in the Done column, it was not accomplished too thoroughly.

* You didn’t ask, but I seriously doubt the workability of such a clause. If it were necessary, I would look in the direction of a significant impediment to smoking.

** Johnny and June were married from 1968 to 2003, when they died a few months apart.

*** Oh, I'm worried about forgetting this paragraph.

**** And it started with an estimate of $300 to $500 [4].
